Hey, Melvin: Gotcha!

Today is Melvin’s Gotcha Day!  It’s been five years since I was given the most awesome life role of loving him.

Buddy, you had me at hello.

Happy Gotcha Day, Melvin! I’m not sure who got the better end of this deal – you or your mama! Now that I’ve met you in person, I’m thinking your mama! 🙂

That was a glorious day for you both! It truly is amazing at how much joy & love a dog can bring to a home. Looking at these pictures brings tears because Melvin reminds me so much of Harley, my chocolate lab, who we lost to lymphoma, just a couple of months ago. I said “no more big dogs” after losing him, but seeing Melvin makes me think twice about that decision. There’s nothing like hugging a big dog! Here’s to many more wonderful years with each other!

    • Aw, Beth — I’m sorry about Harley. I wrote a post some time back, I can find it for you if you want about getting Melvin for all the wrong and right reasons. My previous lab, Max, was short on time for this world and I knew if he left me before i had another dog that I’d delay. So while I was sure about Melvin, there was a fire that led me to him. Melvin and Max only had two months together but without Melvin, that grief would have been unbearable. I know what you’re saying about ‘another big dog’, it can feel impossible to consider. Melvin was one of the best decision I ever made!
