Jake was eight. We adopted him in Nov 2012 when he was five. He was a googly-eyed comedian. His back legs didn’t work so well but that never slowed him down. Dude preserved!
For a year or so, he was, just Jake. After Melvin’s death, Jake took a break from being a sibling — to mourn his brother and earn some braves. You see, Jake was Melvin’s caboose. Jake had to learn to stand on his own, even as his legs continued to fail him.
2015 was a tough year for Jake, he lost Melvin, he lost eyesight in one eye due to an ulcer and emergency surgery. He got MRSP. But we still chased joy and caught it every time.
Sadly in February of 2016, Jake was diagnosed with spinal cancer and a nerve sheath tumor. His mobility suffered even more. My little guy never gave up and he never stopped chasing joy. We lost his battle on July 18, 2016.
Heartbreak and love, sadness and joy. I love him forever.
